Story: 8.5/10:
Although
there isn't a cut-scene in sight, and the plot isn't
too deep, Toki Tori, the chicken who you play as
(he's the picture on the left) will send you postcards
with attached photos, making a funny and interesting
way of telling the story. |
Controls:
9.5/10: there are two control methods you
can choose from, the first (and in my opinion more interesting)
seeing you pointing where you want to go with the remote
and either
tapping (A) to run there, or holding it to walk there. to
switch between items, you use the D-pad, (directional buttons)
and to use a item you press (B). In the second, you plug
in the nunchuck to play the game like a traditional platform
game, using the nunchuck like a normal Gamecube controller.
you can also register a second remote if somebody wants to
help out, but all they can do is draw things. While this
doesn't add much to the gameplay, it does work well if somebody
wants to help out, drawing rather than shouting and pointing.
Graphics:9.7/10:
The graphics are cheerful, well rendered, and have
a large amount of variety with good effects. The pictures
that Toki Tori attaches to his postcards are also fantastically
done. The menus are also well put together.
Sound:9/10:
The sounds are nothing special, but quite cheerful,
and the music is very nice and fitting.
Difficulty:
9.6/10: Toki Tori has a brilliant learning
curve, starting out easy and slowly getting harder and
harder, with extra hard stages you unlock when you finish
each world. There is also a "wildcard" feature, where
you can use your wildcard to skip a level. You lose it
once you use it, but if you complete the stage you used
it on, you'll get
it
back.
Originality: 9.7/10:
Originality and innovation is one of the best features
of the game. The puzzle platform genre is rarely used,
the controls are unique, the characters are new, and
no world is alike.
Replayability:7.5/10:
Even with the extra hard stages to unlock, if you have a good
memory, there's not much challenge once you (eventually)
finish everything.
Secrets
and unlockables:4/10: I haven't completed
the game yet, and it would take me ages to, but as far as I
know, the only unlockables are the hard stages.
Glitches:
10/10: I can't really give this section anything other
than 10, as I haven't come across a single glitch.
Overall:
9.65/10: A very good idea, very well put together.
The best game on wiiware, and one of the best games on the
wii.
